Double victorys for Höher and Gerstl at the season opener in Italy.
Guest starter Christopher Höher also won the FORMULA class in race 2. In a convincing manner he crossed the finish line only two seconds behind OPEN winner Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed). After finishing third in race 1, Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) was able to improve his performance by finishing second behind Höher in the FORMULA class. The defending champion is therefore second in the championship after the first race weekend and is also a contender for the title this year. After a longer period of not being on the podium, Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Coloni) was allowed to step on the podium again. With a third place at his debut in an A1GP Lola he is also a real contender in the championship.
Roman Hoffmann impressed after his retirement in the first race with the fourth place in race 2, only three tenths of a second separated him from de Plano and thus from the podium. Luca Martucci finished fifth after a drive-through penalty (wrong position at the flying start). On the following places: Nicolas Matile, Michael Aberer, Bruno Jarach and Walter Steding.
The next race for the Big Open Single Seater will take place on 1-2 August at the DTM event in Spa-Francorchamps.
BOSS GP brings back world-class motorsport to Italy this weekend.
The 26th BOSS GP racing season kicks off with Forza Fanatec in Imola (July 11th-12th), where the season finale is set to take place just 15 weeks later. The BOSS GP races are the first major motorsport event in Italy after the lockdown. Just like the races in Spa at the beginning of August (1-2), the meeting is a two-day event without spectators on site.
In Imola, there are a couple of new drivers and cars on the grid. All eyes are certainly on the 22-year-old Italian Riccardo Ponzio, who will make his debut with a 2002 Formula 1 car from Jaguar. With Ulf Ehninger (Benetton B197) and OPEN champion Ingo Gerstl (Toro Rosso STR1) two more Formula 1 cars are in the mix.
Other debutants are Austrian hill-climb specialist Christian Ferstl, former touring car ace Roman Hoffmann (both GP2) and Michael Aberer (AUT, WSbR). Also participating for the first time in the FORMULA class are Estonian Bruno Jarach and Italian Roberto Vanni, who will compete in the only Formula 3000 car.
They will take on champion Marco Ghiotto (Scuderia Palladio), Luca Martucci (MM International) and Florian Schnitzenbaumer (Top Speed), among others. We can also be excited about the first appearance of Salvatore De Plano in the A1GP Lola car of Coloni.
The new dry tyre from Pirelli in purple also makes its debut. This tyre is intended to enable experienced drivers to achieve faster lap times and make it easier for less experienced drivers to handle the “black gold”.
Modern and historic sports car and touring car series will round up the Gruppo Peroni event, as well as the Lotus Cup and the Alfa Revival Cup.

Europe’s fastest racing series will be driving together with the DTM in Belgium on 1-2 August.
With the famous corners of Eau Rouge, Blanchimont and Stavelot, the participants can expect an unforgettable experience in a formula racing car. For the first time since 2011, the legendary circuit of Spa-Francorchamps will become part of the BOSS GP race calendar once again. The second race weekend in the Belgian Ardennes will take place on 1 and 2 August together with German touring cars. The event will last two days, as usual with two BOSS GP races in the program.
According to current information, no spectators are planned. However, in cooperation with the DTM, BOSS GP will provide a free live stream for its international fans.
Six races spread over four months and in four different countries, all on current or former Formula 1 or MotoGP racetracks. Despite the difficult circumstances this year, the BOSS GP Racing Series is able to present a very attractive racing calendar to its participants and fans.

Riccardo Ponzio brings a Jaguar Formula 1 onto the grid in 2020.
The 22-year-old Italian Riccardo Ponzio will compete in a Jaguar Formula 1 car for the full BOSS GP season in the OPEN class. The spectacular new project for the 2020 BOSS GP campaign was launched yesterday with an impressive presentation.
The car from 2002 is powered by a 750 hp Cosworth V10 engine. Eddie Irvine, who was the race driver at the time, was able to finish on the podium in Monza. Ponzio, who won the Italian Formula 3 in 2017, also has ambitious aims: “Nothing can really prepare you to drive a car with almost 1000 hp. But the first few kilometres showed me: I feel ready to make my debut.”
The project is set to run for two years. Ponzio and his Jaguar R3 will make their first appearance in BOSS GP 2020 at the season opener in Mugello from March 27 to 29.
FORMULA title decision: Bracalente wins the race, Marco Ghiotto the championship.
How can it be better? The final decision for the championship title in the FORMULA class was made in the twelfth and last BOSS GP season race of 2019. Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) went into the race weekend with better chances. After Alessandro Bracalente’s (ITA, Speed Center) victory in Saturday’s race his lead reduced from 15 to 12 points. This means: Ghiotto had to be at least sixth today if Bracalente scores another victory in Sunday’s race.
Ghiotto already had a shock moment at the start of the warm-up lap when his red GP2 Dallara did not come off the spot. Lucky for Ghiotto: Because a second car also stopped, Ghiotto could line up again in the second row of the grid for the rolling start. The Scuderia Palladio was able to breathe a short sigh of relief.
The best start behind OPEN champion Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) had Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International), who almost caught Bracalente at the top. Ghiotto not only lost the place to Martucci, but also to Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed). However, Ghiotto overtook both again in the early stages and even managed to catch up with Bracalente with a couple of fast lap times. With second place he was fully on target for the title.
And it remained like that. Bracalente won the last race of the season and ended the year with an incredible result for a rookie: 5 victories, 10 podium places and only two retirements. In the end, one too many to defeat his fellow countryman Ghiotto, who also has a great score: 9 podium finishes and 2 victories, but only one DNF. After six exciting race weekends in Hockenheim, Spielberg, Monza, Assen, Brno and Imola, the new FORMULA champion Ghiotto and his opponent Bracalente finally separated by only nine points.

last lap both were within striking distance of each other on the 4.9-kilometer
course. Towards the end of the 25-minute race, Peter Göllner (SUI, Speed
Center) also caught up with the two, but could no longer attack. He finished
the season with a respectable eighth place. Nicolas Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag)
finished ninth in the class. By the way good news for the championship: His
Team Zig-Zag Motorsport Service announced that they would be competing in more
than two races next year.
Overall winner of the race was Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed), who once again put the pedal to the medal today in his Toro Rosso STR1. Although his mechanics gave everything, Phil Stratford had to load his Benetton B197 into the van early due to a defect. Second in the OPEN class and new runner-up instead is “Piter” (FRA, Ray-Ban), whose team managed to repair a big oil leak just before race began.

BOSS GP annual award ceremony will take place on 7 December in Salzburg.
Alessandro Bracalente reduces the gap to championship leader Ghiotto by winning his 4th race of the year.
Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) drove unchallenged to his fourth victory of the
season in the FORMULA class. The BOSS GP rookie thus reduced the gap to Marco
Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) in the points standings from 15 to only 12
points. Now it is clear that the championship will be decided in the last race
on Sunday. Ghiotto followed Bracalente throughout the race like a shadow. Only
at the end of the race he lost the connection to Bracalente and the gap grow to
an high of four seconds at the finish line.
Martucci (ITA, MM International) showed an incredible pace at the finish. At
the beginning of the race he dropped back to 9th place, but on the last lap he
made it onto the podium. For Martucci it is his fifth visit on the podium in
2019. In a courageous last lap manoeuvre, he overtook Salvatore de Plano (ITA,
Top Speed), who seems to have bad luck on his racing boots. For de Plano it was
nevertheless the second-best result of the season and the highest finish since
the Hockenheim season opener.
Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) was also involved in the fight for the podium at
the opening stage of the race. In the end he finished fifth. He scored five
championship points more than Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center), who
finished seventh. Tomorrow Haezebrouck and Fiedler will fight for third place
in the FORMULA ranking.
Faggionato (MCO, Zig-Zag) could not set any time in qualifying because his car
had not been repaired in time. That didn’t stop him from moving up to 6th place
from last position on the grid. For several laps he battled with Haezebrouck
Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) was surprisingly in the top 6 at the beginning of
the race, ahead of Martucci and Haezebrouck. With rank 8, he finished in good
midfield this time.
Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag) finished 9th with the only Auto GP Lola in the field.
Peter Göllner won the internal team duel between him and Christian Eicke (both
SUI, Speed Center).
Ripoli (ITA, MM International) and Ulf Ehninger (DEU, ESBA Racing) had to
retire early in the race. Because Ripoli stopped at the warm-up lap, he had to
start at the back of the grid at the Indy start. He tried to improve his
position in the first lap and collided with Ehninger’s Benetton in the Tosa
victory was again secured by Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed). Not surprisingly,
the already crowned OPEN champion in his Toro Rosso dominated the eleventh race
of the season.

The innovative and aspiring Moravian city of Brno will host the ninth and tenth BOSS Grand Prix 2019 from 5 to 8 September.
The second largest city in the Czech Republic will host another exciting round of the Big Open Single Seater anniversary season. After TT Circuit in Assen follows with the Automotodrom Brno another racetrack famous for motorcycle races. With a track length of 5.403 kilometres, the track on the western outskirts of the city is the longest in the 2019 BOSS GP racing calendar. Fast and smooth curves alternate with a technically demanding part. Engine power is also a decisive factor, as the Czech roller coaster climbs steeply in the last third of the track.
What will the Masaryk Racing Days offer?
The BOSS GP series has arrived in the middle of championship battle. Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) could already be crowned champion in the OPEN class in Brno with an extension of the winning streak that has already lasted three races. The FORMULA class is much closer: Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) and Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) have the best chances there. Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) and Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) are still considered outsiders before the last four rounds in Brno and Imola. Marc Faggionato and Nicolas Matile will add an extra spice with their guest starts in Brno. Faggionato won both races last year.
In addition to the headliner BOSS GP, there will be much more racing from Thursday to Sunday: Sports Car and P9 Challenge, Drexler Formula Cup, ESET V4 Cup with TCR, Suzuki Swift Cup Europe and historic racing classes (HAIGO). The racing fans can look forward to a total of 19 races at the weekend.

after this weekend: Bracalente is only nine points ahead of Ghiotto in four
races to go.
Martucci (ITA, MM International) came third in the FORMULA category. Yesterday
a penalty was also his misfortune, today he landed deservedly on the podium.
The top 3 in today’s race underline the current dominance of the Italians in
this class. Best non-Italian was Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) in
fourth place. A podium finish for the sonnyboy with Le Mans experience is only
a matter of time.
Ripoli (ITA, MM International), winner of race 1, finished sixth today ahead of
team-mate Armando Mangini. Andreas Fiedler started the race from the pit lane
already lagging behind. As usual, he delivered a race to catch up, which
brought him up to 8th place. Christian Eicke (SUI, Speed Center) and Walter
Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) fought further interesting duels. Eicke used a
lapping by another car to pass Steding and secure 8th place.
OPEN category: Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) dominated both races in Assen. Hans Laub (DEU, Speed Center) was happy to finally be in race mode again. Both he and his Forti Formula 1 kept going and were rewarded with 2nd place. Third place on the podium went to “Piter” (FRA, Ray-Ban), who is now behind Gerstl in second place of the championship.

in time, so the crews were working on it even after the 30-second signal – which
is not allowed according to the regulations. Bracalents got – like some of the
other drivers – a time penalty added to the result.

good start of the race. Still in the first half pole setter Bracalente passed
Ghiotto again. The subsequent duel between the two title favourites was a short
one, however, as Ghiotto made a rare mistake and spun off the track. Ripoli
finally won ahead of Bracalente and Armando Mangini (ITA, MM International).
Mangini did it as so often, kept a cool head and crossed the finish line
without any major troubles. This brings the veteran 3th place in the FORMULA
Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) and Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International)

Assen trembles: BOSS GP on lap record chase in qualifying.
The pole position was secured for the third time in 2019 by Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed). A further improvement of his personal lap record from yesterday (1:18.246) was just not possible. The record champion will try to improve in race one with his Toro Rosso STR1 again.
The best-in-class FORMULA driver will also start from the front row of the grid: Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) grabbed pole with an advantage of over a second. It was also the Italian’s third FORMULA best time in the 2019 BOSS GP anniversary season.

Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) confirmed the improving pace of the last races – he starts from 6th place. Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed) had technical problems yesterday and only managed three laps in the two practice sessions. Today he did 12 laps and qualified as overall seventh.
Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) stayed focused even with a TV onboard camera hanging away and finished eighth. In row 5 are Armando Mangini and Walter Steding. Christian Eicke starts behind from 11, “Piter” from 12.
The qualifying session was disappointing for Peter Göllner (SUI, Speed Center), who is well known for his strong performance in Assen. He had to park his GP2 Dallara at the side after only three laps. Together with rookie Ulf Ehninger (DEU, ESBA Racing) in the F1 Benetton B197, he will start the 20-minute race from row 7 this afternoon.
Hans Laub (DEU, Speed Center) in the 1996 Forti skipped the timed practice. The first race of the BOSS GP within the DTM in Assen starts today Saturday at 17:10 o’clock. According to the current weather forecast rain showers are to be expected. For sure the Pirelli Cinturato rain tyres are standing by in the pits.
