Preview: Grande Finale Mugello

One more time this year, the engines of the BOSS GP Racing Series will be fired up: The grand finale of the 2023 season will take place in Tuscany.

For rounds 13 and 14 of the season, the teams and drivers will travel to one of the most beautiful racetracks on the continent. The 5.245-kilometer track at Mugello (built in 1974) will be the the venue for the finale of a great 2023 season that will be remembered for, among other things, new spectator records.

The Mugello Circuit is owned by Ferrari and traditionally hosts the MotoGP. In 2020, the track in Tuscany also was the venue for a Formula 1 race. The sequences of corners are mostly fluid and fast, the topography hilly. This makes the track, which was built in 1974, a favourite of many drivers. In addition, temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius are forecast for the coming weekend.

Entries

With no F1 cars in the entry list, Antonio Pizzonia (HS Engineering) goes into the finale as the favourite for overall victory. For the Brazilian, however, it is once again a good opportunity to attack the lap record of a non-F1. Should he see the checkered flag in both races yet again, he could finish the season without a retirement and with a 100 percent win rate in the OPEN class.

In the most competitive class FORMULA, where Formula 2 and World Series cars meet, MM Motorsport brings the most promising line-up to the start line: With Simone Colombo (ITA), Marc Faggionato (MCO) and Salvatore de Plano (ITA) three former race winners have entered the event. They will take on Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) who wants to make the most of his last chance for a win this season. Another Italian, Bruno Jarach, will start in Ghiotto’s team.

Nicolas Matile (MCO) and Jean-Christophe Peyre (FRA) will compete for the French Zig-Zag Motorsport team. Both will be driving one of the spectacular Auto GP cars. Andreas Fiedler (GER, Fiedler Racing) is now fully back after a few absences this season and has a good chance of jumping up a few places in the overall standings.

And in the SUPER LIGHTS? Walter Colacino (ITA, Colacino Racing) is also coming to Tuscany with his Formula 3000. He shares the Lola, built in 1996, with his colleague Roberto Vanni (ITA).

Preview: Nardi Compressori Race Monza

After two years, the BOSS GP Racing Series finally returns to the Parco di Monza, one of the most prestigious racing venues in the world.

Where just a few weeks ago thousands and thousands of Tifosi were able to experience Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen & Co., Formula 1 history will once again return this coming weekend (September 22 to 24, 2023). With the BOSS GP Racing Series, the fastest racing cars of the past 25 years are lined up to contest again in a race. The great interest in drivers for the sixth race weekend of the season showed how popular the circuit is.

The second of three Italian BOSS GP rounds this season will be held in Monza

The 5.793-kilometer racetrack in the royal park of Monza is one of the most impressive racing facilities in the world. As one of the last high-speed tracks, it is a unique challenge for racing drivers. A large part of the original layout has been adapted to modern safety standards and is still used today, but the steep concrete curves can only be visited on foot. Many drivers and fans also combine their visit with a trip to the centre of Milan, about half an hour away, or to nearby Lake Garda.

Entries

Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed), who is already confirmed as the old and new champion of the BOSS GP F1 Class, will enter the races in Monza as the logical favourite for victory. His STR1 with the V10 Cosworth engine is the fastest car on the grid for Monza.

In the OPEN class, where adapted monoposto cars will be on the grid, Paul O’ Connell is expected to make an appearance. This time, the popular Irish racer will be driving a second Dallara World Series with a 4.5-liter engine, prepared by HS Engineering, in an attempt to stand up to ex-Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia (HS Engineering). The Brazilian has already been confirmed as champion of his class and will once again try to keep up with Gerstl’s Formula 1 car and offer the fans the best possible show.

This time, there is particularly great interest in the FORMULA class, where there are some newcomers: Juju Noda is one of them. The Japanese is the daughter of Hideki Noda, the former Formula 1 and IndyCar driver. On her way towards the top class, she uses the BOSS GP platform as an ideal training environment to familiarise herself with a big Formula racing car. To do so, the former W Series driver will climb into a 3.5-litre World Series of the Austrian team HS Engineering this weekend.

With Felix Grosse-Aschhoff and Michael Grosse-Aschhoff (both GER), two drivers from Asche Racing will join the grid in Monza. The international character of the BOSS GP Racing Series is also demonstrated by the entry of David Richert from Canada, who will compete for MM International from Italy. Richert has previously raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup and most recently competed in Formula 3. Now he is celebrating his debut in a GP2 Dallara.

In the duel for the championship title, however, two other drivers are in the spotlight: Once again it is Scuderia Palladio driver Marco Ghiotto (champion 2019, 2020, 2021) and Simone Colombo (champion 2022) who are battling it out at their home race. Colombo (MM International) could clinch the title already this weekend.

Five other Italians will be competing in Monza, including Robert Vanni and Walter Colacino (both Colacino Racing) in a Formula 3000 in the SUPER LIGHTS category. With Stefan Eisinger-Sewald (AUT, Red Rose Racing) in an older Ralt-F3000 and Jody Stadelmann (SUI, Team Stadelmann) in the rare Formula Nippon-Mugen, there are also two returnees in this class.

Register now for the Grande Finale

BOSS GP extends the summer with the grand finale of the championship season at Mugello from October 6-8, 2023.

For some competitors, a better ranking in the championship is still at stake, while others want to end the season with a strong sense of achievement. The ideal opportunity to do so and take a ride in their Big Open Single Seater is already in two weeks in Tuscany. The Formula 1 and MotoGP circuit at Mugello will be the venue for two free practice sessions on Friday, qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and a second race on Sunday. This means that a total of over two hours of track time will be available for the BOSS GP Racing Series as part of the PNK Motorsport Racing Weekend.

Anyone wishing to take part in the seventh and final event of the championship season can still register: Registration is open up to and including September 25, 2023. Interested teams and drivers can find all the necessary documents on the website under For Teams.

Preview: Assen

At Jack’s Racing Day, Europe’s fastest racing series will make its comeback on 12 and 13 August at the traditional TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.

It is the largest combined car, motocycle and kart event in Europe. Finally, the BOSS GP Racing Series is taking part again. Among them is Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) with his Toro Rosso STR1, one of the last ten-cylinder cars in Formula 1 history. With Antonio Pizzonia (BRA, HS Engineering), a famous driver with F1 past is also at the start in a World Series V8 4.5 car in the OPEN class. The favourites for victory in the FORMULA class are Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International) and Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio), who will continue their duel in the Netherlands. Also keep an eye on the father-son duel Thomas versus Simon Jackermeier (both GER, Top Speed) in the Fanatec GP2s. Walter Steding (GER, Scuderia Palladio), who was active in BOSS GP for many years and only contested a full season for the last time last year, will celebrate his return. In the SUPER LIGHTS, Henry Clausnitzer (GER, WF Racing) will once again try to take home the full points.

Due to the somewhat unfortunate August date, there are slightly fewer cars than usual at the start of our only race in the Netherlands. However, a visit to the paddock and the pits of the BOSS GP is worthwhile, where more legendary vehicles are on display and the teams can be seen working on their vehicles.

Preview: Misano

The fourth race weekend from 21 to 23 July 2023 in Misano marks the mid-season for the Big Open Single Seater Racing Series, Europe’s fastest racing series.

With the BOSS GP Racing Series, the most powerful single-seater cars of the last 25 years will be guests at the World Circuit Marco Simoncelli this weekend – meaning that spectators on site will experience the fastest starting grid of the year. The Misano circuit has already celebrated its 50th anniversary. The 4.2-kilometre track has been rebuilt several times, including a change of direction in 2006. 16 corners demand a lot of patience on the throttle and precision from the pilots. Only a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast, the “Holiday Grand Prix” is a good opportunity for the participants of the BOSS GP to spend their holidays by the sea.

Scuderia Palladio is one of the strong Italian teams in BOSS GP

Entries

Antonio Pizzonia (BRA) is the favourite in the BOSS GP OPEN class. With the World Series V8 of the HS Engineering team, he has won all the races so far this season. The former Formula 1 driver will try to break the track record set last year by Harald Schlegelmilch (1:20.785 min). Schlegelmilch (LVA, HS Engineering) himself will make his BOSS GP comeback in Misano, but in the FORMULA Class. Last year’s OPEN Class champion will be driving a World Series by Renault 3.5.

For many years now, the Italian teams and drivers have been a fundamental reason for the success of the BOSS GP Racing Series. No fewer than eight Italians will be competing in Misano this time. Championship leader Simone Colombo (MM International), his rival Marco Ghiotto (Scuderia Palladio) and Ghiotto’s team-mate “Checco” Malavasi in the FORMULA class. Also competing for Ghiotto’s team is Bruno Jarach. Another Italian, Marco Minelli (AM Sport System), who recently made his debut in Spielberg, joins them in a World Series Dallara. New in Misano is Alessandro Rosi (Gruppo Piloti Forlivesi), who, like compatriot Minelli, will be driving a World Series car. They will all face Fabian Vettel (GER, Top Speed), who made a strong monoposto debut at the Red Bull Ring and will participate in the rest of the season in the BOSS GP. After the first podium, an attack for the win could possibly happen soon. For the first time this year, Nicolas Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag) will be on the grid, bringing one of the spectacular Auto GP cars with a loud 3.4-litre Zytek engine, as will team-mate Jean-Christophe Peyre (FRA). In addition to Simone Colombo, Marc Faggionato (MCO) is another contender for victory in the car for the Tuscan MM International team. In addition, Adriano Buzaid, a former top driver from the British Formula 3, will make his debut. The Brazilian will also compete in a GP2 car.

In the SUPER LIGHTS class, where primarily the 6-cylinder cars find their stage, Walter Colacino and Giulio Tine (both ITA) share a 1998 Formula 3000 with an Alfa Romeo engine. They will compete against Henry Clausnitzer, who exhibited with consistency in his debut season and continues on his way towards the title.

The BOSS GP F1 Class will not compete in Misano because the track is not approved for Formula 1 cars. Interested Formula 1 teams and drivers therefore have the opportunity to take part in two show runs this year in Brno (9/10 September) and Magny-Cours (30 September/1 October). These events are also the perfect opportunity to get a taste of BOSS GP. Send your enquiry to race@bossgp.com

Fans can expect a unique mix of Formula 1, Formula 2 and GP2, World Series and Formula 3000 cars. For the first time Sebastian Vettel’s younger brother Fabian will compete in the BOSS GP Racing Series next weekend. With him on the grid: ex-Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia and thousands of horsepower.

Entries

First and foremost, Salzburg’s record champion Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) will compete in the BOSS GP F1 Class. With his Toro Rosso STR1, he not only holds various track records, but has also conquered the hearts of numerous fans with the V10 Cosworth engine. Gerhard Berger’s Benetton from 1997, today driven by Ulf Ehninger (GER, ESBA Racing) in its original livery, also brings back nostalgic memories.

Modified cars that no longer comply with the original regulations of their racing series compete in the OPEN class. The best-known representative in this illustrious field is former Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia. The Brazilian competed for BMW Williams on this circuit in 2003, this year once again he is chasing F1 cars in the field with a World Series V8 bolide with a big 4.5-litre Gibson engine. Team-mate Paul O’Connell from Ireland will start with a World Series car powered by a 3.3-litre Cosworth engine and will be able to fight among the GP2 cars. Both mentioned race cars are entered by HS Engineering.

The field of Formula 2, GP2 and World Series 3.5 cars features several highlights. 24-year-old Fabian Vettel (GER), who recently competed in the ADAC GT Masters, among others, is driving in the BOSS GP Racing Series for the first time. With a GP2 car from the Austrian Top Speed team, the driver from Heppenheim could cause a sensation in FORMULA class right from the start. Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International) comes to Spielberg as the overall leader. After three wins in four races this season, he has already pulled a few points clear of his toughest rival Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio). Other contenders for the top positions include Thomas Jackermeier (GER, Top Speed) in the Fanatec GP2, “Checco” Malavasi (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) and Andreas Fiedler (GER, Fiedler Racing). The debut of Alexander Geier (AUT, Geier Racing) from Salzburg in the GP2 car will be interesting. Last year, the young man from Salzburg made a big impression in the SUPER LIGHTS category. With the experienced hillclimb driver and organiser of the Rechbergrennen, Christian Ferstl (AUT), a Styrian local hero will also be competing in this class with a GP2 Dallara.

The 21-strong field is completed by the Formula 3000 of Walter Colacino (shared with Sebastiano Sibani; both ITA) and the V6 World Series of Henry Clausnitzer (GER, WF Racing) as well as Stefan Eisinger-Sewald’s (AUT, Red Rose Racing) Ralt-F3000 in the SUPER LIGHTS class.

Preview: Hockenheim

From 5 to 7 May, one of the biggest international classic events of 2023 will take place at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg. The highlight for fans in the Motodrom: the BOSS GP Racing Series with Formula 1 drivers and cars from the 1990s and 2000s.

“Racing to see, hear, smell, taste and touch” – in short: “Enjoying Motorsport” is the motto of this year’s Bosch Hockenheim Historic. The event is held in honour of the Scottish Formula 1 World Champion Jim Clark, who died in a Formula 2 race at the Hockenheimring on 7 April 1968. Traditionally, the event always attracts around 500 starters and more than 20,000 fans in spring. This year, motorsport fans will be offered even more.

Entries

20 drivers have entered the second event of the BOSS GP Racing Series season after the season opener in Le Castellet in April. The world’s fastest racing cars will not only be presented to a large audience in Hockenheim, but there will also again be a battle for points in four classes. The BOSS GP Formula 1 class will feature Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) in the Toro Rosso STR1 and Ulf Ehninger (GER, ESBA Racing), the 2021 champion from Tübingen. Ehninger will start in a former Hockenheim winner’s car, the Benetton B197. Thomas Jackermeier (GER, Top Speed), who last competed in a Toro Rosso STR3, could surprise the crowd. However, his start in another ten-cylinder car is still questionable.

A “must-see” for many is the entry of Antonio Pizzonia (BRA) in a World Series car from HS Engineering in the OPEN class. The Brazilian last competed at the – already rebuilt – Hockenheimring in 2004. At that time, he raced for BMW-Williams in Formula 1.

In the FORMULA class, the Italian regulars such as Simone Colombo (MM International), Marco Ghiotto and “Checco” Malavasi (both Scuderia Palladio) will be joined by several returnees to the series. Among others, the Germans Alexander Seibold (Seibold Auto + Sport) and Andreas Fiedler (GER, Fiedler Racing) will make their comeback with their GP2 cars. We can also look forward to the Hockenheim debut of Paul Ricard winner Marc Faggionato (ITA, MM International).

In the SUPER LIGHTS category, Henry Clausnitzer (GER, WF Racing), who won both races at Le Castellet in the Tatuus World Series car, will have new opponents at Hockenheim. With Joey Stadelmann (SUI, G-Force) in a Japanese Formula Nippon and the well-known Paul O’Connell (IRE, O’Connell Motorsport) and the Austrian Histo Cup winner Stefan Eisinger-Sewald (Red Rose Racing) in a Ralt Formula 3000, there are three new opponents for Clausnitzer this time.

Preview: Pirelli Grande Finale Misano

The final decision will be made on the last race meeting of the year: the Pirelli Grande Finale in Misano from 4 to 6 November 2022.

Updated Entry List on 3/11/2022, 10:35 CET

Ingo Gerstl (BOSS GP F1 Class), Harald Schlegelmilch (OPEN) and Andreas Hasler (SUPER LIGHTS) have already been crowned the new champions of 2022 ahead of the Pirelli Grande Finale. The situation is completely different in the FORMULA class, where two drivers can still become champions after two dramatic races in Mugello. On the one hand, defending champion Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio). After two titles in a row, compatriot Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International) could break his winning streak this year. Colombo leads by 38 points after ten of the season’s twelve races and has two more victories than Ghiotto under his belt. With a maximum of 50 points up for grabs, Ghiotto will be going all out to repeat his victory double from last year at Misano in his 2011 GP2 car. Colombo (2017 GP2 car), on the other hand, has known since the second race at Mugello at the latest how quickly a race can end in the gravel bed. How much risk will he take this time?

With Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International), another Italian wants to finish his season in the best possible way. In the championship, he could still move up to third place. Whether the track record of 1:24.761, set by Marco Ghiotto in qualifying 2021, will fall this year is unclear. The weather forecast promises a high chance of rain for all three days of the event. Unfortunately, due to stricter noise regulations, the Formula 1 cars are missing on the BOSS GP Racing Series grid this time. The favourite for the overall victory is expected to be Harald Schlegelmilch (LVA, HS Engineering) in his 4.5-litre World Series car.

Track:

The BOSS GP Racing Series makes its second stop at the 4.2-kilometre Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli this year after last year’s premiere. The track has been in operation near the Adriatic coast since 1972, with the biggest reconstruction taking place in 2006 and 2007, when the direction of the track was rotated (now clockwise) to create more space for run-off areas. Today, like all the other tracks on the BOSS GP Racing Series calendar, the circuit has the highest safety standard and regularly hosts MotoGP, World Superbike Championship and the Fanatec GT World Challenge.

Preview: Brno

Next weekend (September 9–11) Europe’s fastest racing series, the BOSS GP Racing Series, returns from its summer break. Hosted by the Masaryk Racing Days at the Automotodrom in Brno.

The weekend of 9–11 September marks the start of the second half of the season for the BOSS GP Racing Series. After six races in Hockenheim, Spielberg and Le Castellet, six more races are scheduled in the next nine weeks in Brno, Mugello and Misano. Before the season ends in Italy, the unique mix of Big Open single-seaters in the Formula 1, Formula 2, World Series & Co. categories will head to Brno.

In the BOSS GP F1 Class, that is the classification for Formula 1 cars, four cars have been entered. Among them are three Toro Rossos, including the STR1 of championship leader Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed), who has won all races so far this season. In Sebastien Vettel’s premiere winning car, the Toro Rosso STR3 with a Ferrari engine, Thomas Jackermeier (GER, Top Speed) wants to break this streak in Brno. Racing fans can especially look forward to a rare piece of motorsport history in the form of the green and yellow Lotus T127. The Formula 1 car from 2010 is equipped with a Cosworth V8 engine and will be entered by Team Top Speed. The ex-car of Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen is driven by Austrian Thomas Jakoubek.

In the absence of championship leader Zdenek Chovanec Lopez (PRT), FORMULA title defender Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) is aiming for his first win of the season. In the battle for the championship, however, Ghiotto’s compatriot Simone Colombo (MM International) could put himself in the best starting position. After three events, he is only twelve points behind Chovanec-Lopez, but already 35 ahead of Marco Ghiotto. Salvatore de Plano (ITA, MM International), who has won races with a GP2 in the past, has also been named. After a longer break from racing, he also wants to have a say in the fight for the podium.

In the BOSS GP SUPER LIGHTS, Alexander Geier (Geier Racing) in an older 2003 Tatuus-Renault and Andreas Hasler (Hasler Motorsport) will continue their inner-Austrian duel in the six-cylinder car class.

Race track:

With a track length of 5.403 kilometres, the former MotoGP circuit is also the second longest circuit of the year after Circuit Paul Ricard (5.8 km long). Fast and fluid corners alternate with a technically demanding section. Engine power is also a decisive factor because the Czech rollercoaster goes steeply uphill in the last third of the track. Here you not only see what the cars are capable of, but also which driver can control his vehicle best.
