Report: Race 1 Imola

Alessandro Bracalente reduces the gap to championship leader Ghiotto by winning his 4th race of the year.

Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) drove unchallenged to his fourth victory of the season in the FORMULA class. The BOSS GP rookie thus reduced the gap to Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) in the points standings from 15 to only 12 points. Now it is clear that the championship will be decided in the last race on Sunday. Ghiotto followed Bracalente throughout the race like a shadow. Only at the end of the race he lost the connection to Bracalente and the gap grow to an high of four seconds at the finish line.

Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International) showed an incredible pace at the finish. At the beginning of the race he dropped back to 9th place, but on the last lap he made it onto the podium. For Martucci it is his fifth visit on the podium in 2019. In a courageous last lap manoeuvre, he overtook Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed), who seems to have bad luck on his racing boots. For de Plano it was nevertheless the second-best result of the season and the highest finish since the Hockenheim season opener.

Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) was also involved in the fight for the podium at the opening stage of the race. In the end he finished fifth. He scored five championship points more than Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center), who finished seventh. Tomorrow Haezebrouck and Fiedler will fight for third place in the FORMULA ranking.

Marc Faggionato (MCO, Zig-Zag) could not set any time in qualifying because his car had not been repaired in time. That didn’t stop him from moving up to 6th place from last position on the grid. For several laps he battled with Haezebrouck for position.

Walter Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) was surprisingly in the top 6 at the beginning of the race, ahead of Martucci and Haezebrouck. With rank 8, he finished in good midfield this time.

Nicolas Matile (MCO, Zig-Zag) finished 9th with the only Auto GP Lola in the field. Peter Göllner won the internal team duel between him and Christian Eicke (both SUI, Speed Center).

Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International) and Ulf Ehninger (DEU, ESBA Racing) had to retire early in the race. Because Ripoli stopped at the warm-up lap, he had to start at the back of the grid at the Indy start. He tried to improve his position in the first lap and collided with Ehninger’s Benetton in the Tosa hairpin.

The overall victory was again secured by Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed). Not surprisingly, the already crowned OPEN champion in his Toro Rosso dominated the eleventh race of the season.

The 12th and last race of the BOSS GP anniversary season will take place tomorrow Sunday at 2:10 p.m., before that at 10:30 a.m. is BOSS GP’s warm-up session.

Report: Race 2 Monza

Marco Ghiotto wins again in FORMULA and Ingo Gerstl strikes back in the OPEN category.

It was the counterattack of the record champion: After Phil Stratford (USA, Penn Elcom) had beaten Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) for the second time this year yesterday, Stratford had no chance today. Gerstl took his fourth victory of the season with a dominant performance in his Toro Rosso STR1 and thus extends the overall lead again.

Phil Stratford tried to follow Gerstl, but yesterday’s winner suddenly stopped in lap 9. A technical problem on the Benetton B197 forced Stratford to stop between the two Lesmo corners.

In the FORMULA class Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) repeated his victory of yesterday. Only a safety car shortly before the end made him sweat, otherwise the uncle of Formula 2 driver Luca Ghiotto had everything under control. Ghiotto is now the championship leader in the BOSS GP FORMULA category for the first time after his double victory this race weekend.

Marco Ghiotto: “Today it was easy. For the set-up I played it safe and didn’t adjust the rear wing as flat as yesterday. To win again at the home race here in Monza is a sensational experience for the team and for me as an Italian”.

Sunday’s podium: f.l. Bracalente, M. Ghiotto, OPEN winner Gerstl, Fiedler

Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center) had a day to forget yesterday. Without points and very mad he went to bed yesterday. In today’s second race he managed to return to the podium with second place in his class. He also had to thank his German team Speed Center, who screwed several cars at the same time late at night. Although Bracalente has lost the lead in the points standings to Marco Ghiotto, with second place in today’s Sunday race he remains within striking distance for the coming races.

Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) showed, as he did yesterday, a race to catch up at its best. Started from last place, he overtook one competitor after the other lap after lap. After overtaking Walter Steding (DEU, Inter Europol) and Gianluca Ripoli (ITA, MM International) he was already fifth in class in lap 4. In lap 6 he overtook Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Speed Center) and Luca Martucci (ITA, MM International). Having reached class rank 3, the distance to Marco Ghiotto and Bracalente was too big to start another attack.

Martucci finally finished fourth in his class and was the best of the Italian MM International team. Teammate Ripoli finished 5th, ahead of Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed).

Phillipe Haezebrouck had a much harder time today. After a strong fourth place yesterday, he was handed back in the race today and finished seventh in FORMULA.

Armando Mangini (ITA, MM International) was also a long time in the lead, a technical defect led to his early retirement.

The next BOSS GP will take place in five weeks. In Assen the Big Open Single Seater will start in the program of the famous and very popular touring cars of DTM. Tickets for the weekend are available from 49 Euro on www.dtm.com/en/tickets/assen-2019

Report: Rennen 2 Hockenheim

Vor den Augen von DTM-Fahrer Timo Glock zeigten die BOSS GP-Stars im zweiten Rennen viel Überhol-Action. Wieder gewinnen Ingo Gerstl (OPEN) und Andreas Fiedler (FORMULA).

Der fliegende Start zum zweiten BOSS GP-Rennen des Jahres ging problemlos über die Bühne. Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) war wiederholt derjenige, der in der Anfangsphase die Führung der FORMULA-Klasse übernehmen konnte. Beim fliegenden Start schnappte er sich Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed) und FORMULA-Polesetter Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center).

Bracalente und De Plano konnte nach wenigen Runden wieder aufschließen und setzten Fiedler zunehmend unter Druck. Doch der Sieger des ersten Rennens machte keine Fehler. Nach acht Runden wurde Fiedler abermals als Klassensieger abgewunken. Damit ist der Vizemeister von 2018 auch der erste Tabellenführer der noch jungen Saison in der FORMULA. Rookie Bracalente und De Plano durften mit aufs Podest. Damit durfte De Plano nach der Strafe im ersten Lauf doch noch einen Pokal mit nach Hause nehmen.

Start zum zweiten Rennen: Gerstl im Toro Rosso vor der Schnellsten der FORMULA

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) konnte in Runde 1 gerade noch einen Dreher verhindern. Zwar verlor er zunächst einige Plätze, in einem beherzten Duell mit Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Inter Europol) um Platz 4 behielt er letztendlich die Nase aber vorne.

Die Teamkollegen Armando Mangini und Gianluca Ripoli (beide ITA, MM International) duellierten sich das ganze Rennen über. Das bessere Ende gehörte Teamchef Mangini (Rang 6).

OPEN-Podium: v.l. „Piter”, Ehrengast Mario und Ingo Gerstl

In der OPEN-Klasse siegte Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) im V10-Toro-Rosso. „Piter“ (FRA, Ray-Ban) stand abermals neben Gerstl am Podest. Für den Franzosen waren es die ersten Podestplätze seiner BOSS GP-Karriere.

Den Sound of Speed gibt’s das nächste Mal von 23. bis 25. Mai zu hören, dann gastiert die BOSS GP am Red Bull Ring in Österreich.

Report: Race 2 Hockenheim

In front of DTM driver Timo Glock the BOSS GP stars showed a lot of overtaking action in the second race. Ingo Gerstl (OPEN) and Andreas Fiedler (FORMULA) win again.

The flying start to the second BOSS GP race of the year went off without a hitch. Andreas Fiedler (DEU, Fiedler Racing) was repeatedly the one who was able to take the lead in the FORMULA class in the initial phase. At the flying start he snatched Salvatore de Plano (ITA, Top Speed) and Alessandro Bracalente (ITA, Speed Center), the man on FORMULA pole position.

Bracalente and De Plano were able to catch up again after a few laps and put Fiedler under increasing pressure. But the winner of the first race made no mistakes. After eight laps Fiedler was again flagged as class winner. Thus, the runner-up of 2018 is also the first leader of the standings in FORMULA. Rookie Bracalente and De Plano were among the winner on the podium. This meant that De Plano were able to take home a trophy after the penalty in the first run.

Start for race 2: Gerstl leads the field in his Toro Rosso into turn 1

Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) could just prevent a spin in lap 1. Although he lost a few places at first, in a courageous duel with Philippe Haezebrouck (FRA, Inter Europol) for 4th place he finally kept his nose in front.

Team mates Armando Mangini and Gianluca Ripoli (both ITA, MM International) duelled throughout the race. The better end belonged to team boss Mangini (6th).

OPEN podium: f.l. ‘Piter’, special guest Mario and Ingo Gerstl

In the OPEN class Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) in the V10 Toro Rosso won. ‘Piter’ (FRA, Ray-Ban) once again stood on the podium next to Gerstl. For the Frenchman these were the first podium places of his BOSS GP career.

The Sound of Speed will be performed next time from 23rd to 25th May, then the BOSS GP will race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
