DE: Saisonrückblick 2024 F1 & OPEN

Der Meistertitel in der Königsklasse der Formel-1-Boliden ging in diesem Jahr an Ulf Ehninger. Bei den OPEN-Boliden war es Antonio Pizzonia, der seinen Titel verteidigte.

In diesem Jahr gab es ein Duell, dass es so in der Formel-1-Weltmeisterschaft nie gab: Benetton gegen Toro Rosso, Ulf Ehninger gegen Ingo Gerstl. Man konnte es auch als Fernduell bezeichnen, musste vor allem Gerstl (Team Top Speed) Anfang des Jahres mit technischen Problemen an seinem 2006er-Toro-Rosso mehrfach zusehen. Ehninger (ESBA Racing) im hellblauen Benetton von 1997 mit Judd-Motor holte in den ersten vier Rennen drei Siege, während der Österreicher Gerstl in der zweiten Saisonhälfte dort anknüpfte, wo er in der Vorsaison aufgehört hat. Mit fünf Siegen en suite wurde es an der Tabellenspitze zum Saisonfinale nochmals eng. Doch bereits ein Rennen vor Schluss konnte sich Ehninger mit einem zweiten Rang im ersten Lauf in Mugello vorzeitig den Titel sichern. Glück für den Deutschen, denn im zweiten Lauf schied er aus. Für Ehninger ist es der zweite Meistertitel in der BOSS GP Racing Series nach dem Premierenerfolg im Jahr 2021.

Zahlreiche Fans tummeln sich vor der Top-Speed-Garage

Am Beginn des Jahres bereicherte auch Thomas Jakoubek (Team Top Speed) mit seinem schönen Lotus T127 (aus der Formel-1-Saison 2010) das Fahrerfeld. Nächstes Jahr sollen weitere Starts des Österreichs erfolgen. Wie wichtig die Formel-1-Boliden auch im 30. Jahr der BOSS GP Racing Series sind, zeigte u.a. Ingo Gerstls Auftritt beim Showrun in der Innenstadt von Assen, wo das BOSS GP-Aushängeschild zusammen mit David Coulthard die Werbetrommel rührte.

In der offenen Klasse, die zwischen den Formel 1 und den GP2- bzw. World-Series-Autos der FORMULA-Klasse angesiedelt ist, war es ein Solo für Antonio Pizzonia (HS Engineering). Der ehemalige Jaguar- und Williams-Pilot hatte auch in seinem zweiten Jahr in der BOSS GP Racing Series trotz wenig Konkurrenz für seinen World Series V8 4.5 viel Spaß, den er mit Donuts in der Auslaufrunde mehrmals auch mit den jubelnden Fans auf den Tribünen teilte.

Zum Grande Finale in Misano bekam Pizzonia stallintern Konkurrenz zur Seite gestellt. Mit Haralds Slegelmilhs war der OPEN-Meister des Jahres 2022 zur BOSS GP zurückgekehrt. Die beiden Fahrer des österreichischen Teams duellierten sich in beiden Rennen wenig zimperlich, aber immer fair. Weil Pizzonia im ersten Rennen beim fliegenden Start nicht vom Fleck kam, war der Lette Slegelmilhs in der Lage, daraus Profit zu ziehen. Es war das einzige Rennen, bei dem Pizzonia an den Start gegangen war und nicht die volle Punktzahl mitnahm. Doch der Brasilianer revanchierte sich am Sonntag und drehte die Reihenfolge wieder um, einzig die schnellste Rennrunde und damit auch einen neuen Rundenrekord am Misano World Circuit ließ sich Gastfahrer Haralds Slegelmilhs nicht nehmen.

Die Top-3 jeder Klasse werden am 7. Dezember 2024 bei der großen Champions Night in Maria Alm in den österreichischen Bergen geehrt.

Großartiger Herbstbeginn in Mugello

Nach dem Rennen in Assen / Niederlande und der anschließenden Sommerpause zog es die Teams der BOSS GP Racing Serie Anfang Oktober in den Süden. Bereits bei Nennschluss stand fest, dass es in der Toskana mit 24 Boliden wieder ein sehr großes Starterfeld geben wird. HS-Engineering aus Österreich hatte in Assen pausiert, doch für Mugello waren wieder beide Dallara World Series V8 T12 genannt. Der brasilianische Ex-Formel 1 Pilot Antonio Pizzonia mit dem stärkeren 4,5 Liter Gibson-Aggregat in der Open-Class und der Ire Paul O´Connell mit dem 3,5 Liter V8. Das französische ZIG-ZAG-Team brachte mit dem Monegassen Nicolas Matile und dem Franzosen Jean-Christope Peyre wieder zwei altbekannte Auto-GP-Racer in der Formula-Class an den Start.

Ein Wiedersehen gab es auch mit Giancarlo Pedetti (ITA), der diesmal einen GP 2 der Scuderia Palladio pilotierte. Erstmals in dieser Formula-Class mit dabei der Tscheche Vladimir Netušil. Er wagte den Umstieg von einem Formel 3 in den GP2 des italienischen Teams MM International Motorsport. Zu dem großen Starterfeld gesellte sich auch der BOSS GP Super-Lights-Champion aus dem Jahr 2022, Andreas Hasler aus Österreich, der nach längerer, technisch bedingter Abstinenz wiederum seinem Dallara World Series V6 T08 in die Toskana brachte.
In den beiden freien Trainings, die bei wechselnden Bedingungen gefahren wurden, duellierten sich Ingo Gerstl (AUT) vom Team Top-Speed im Toro Rosso STR1 F1 und Antonio Pizzonia. Gerstl fuhr in FP1 mit 1:30.422 die schnellste Zeit, Pizzonia konterte als Schnellster in FP2, kam jedoch mit 1:31.513 nicht an die Zeit des Österreichers heran. Dahinter ein italienisches GP 2 Trio mit Simone Colombo, Massimiliano Cuccarese (beide MM International Motorsport) und Marco Ghiotto (Scuderia Palladio). Überraschend stark Neueinsteiger Vladimir Netušil, der sich nach den beiden freien Trainings hinter diesem Trio und somit im vorderen Feld der Formula-Class bemerkbar machte. Ein spannendes Qualifying war zu erwarten – und das gab es dann auch, allerdings mit erheblicher Verzögerung, denn der Morgennebel hielt sich hartnäckig und war so dicht, dass ein rechtzeitiger Beginn für keine der an diesem Wochenende in Mugello anwesenden Rennklassen möglich war. Erst zwei Stunden später als geplant gingen mit dem Alfa Romeo Revival Cup die ersten Piloten auf die Strecke.


Die durch den starken Nebel verursachten Verspätungen im Zeitplan trübte keineswegs die Stimmung bei den Teilnehmern der Boss GP Racing Series (im Bild: Paul O´Connell / HS-Engineering, Ingo Gerst / Top-Speed und Andreas Hasler / Hasler Motorsport).

Der Nebel verzog sich dann schnell und die Wetterlage verbesserte sich. Somit waren im Qualifying der BOSS GP wesentlich bessere Rundenzeiten möglich. Aufgrund des großen Starterfeldes wurden diesmal das 30-min. Qualifying wieder in zwei Gruppen aufgeteilt. Zuerst 10 Minuten für die schnellsten aus den freien Trainings und nach eine Wechselphase dann 18 Minuten für das restliche Feld.

Aufgrund der nebelbedingten Verzögerungen musste PNK als Veranstalter unter Absprache der Rennleitung und der BOSS GP Organisation den Zeitplan enorm straffen. Alle Serienveranstalter halfen sehr engagiert mit, um sämtliche geplanten Rennläufe durchzubringen. Für das Rennen 1 der BOSS GP, das mit knapp einer Stunde Verspätung gestartet wurde, musste dadurch die Renndauer um zwei Minuten gekürzt werden.
Klassenergebnisse BOSS GP Rennen 1:

Das Rennen 2 am Sonntag ging wie ursprünglich geplant über die Bühne.
In der Formation-Lap vorne weg die beiden Formel 1 mit Ingo Gerstl und Ulf Ehninger (GER), ESBA Racing, Benetton B197 F1. Hinter dem zweiten Leading Car das restliche Feld, angeführt von Antonip Pizzonia und gefolgt von einer Armada an GP2 Piloten der Formula Class. Da in den einzelnen Klassen einige Vorentscheidungen in Hinblick auf den Gesamtsieg fallen konnten, waren spannende Zweikämpfe und interessante Fights um die einzelnen Platzierungen in den Punkterängen zu erwarten. Und so kam es dann auch. Rundenlang wurden Positionen gewechselt.


Mit zwei Laufsiegen in Mugello rückt Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International Motorsport, Dallara GP2, im Bild vorne), dem bisher Führenden der BOSS GP Formula-Class, Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio, Dallara GP2) in der Punktewertung immer näher. Die Entscheidung um den Gesamtsieg dieser Klasse wird wohl am Misano-Wochenende Anfang November fallen.

Da die F 1 Class der BOSS GP Anfang November beim Finale in Misano nicht am Start ist, steht Ulf Ehninger zum zweiten Mal als Gesamtsieger fest. Ebenso Antonio Pizzonia in der Open Class der BOSS GP. Keine Titelentscheidung gibt es in den restlichen zwei Klassen der BOSS GP. Hier sind sowohl Gesamtsieg und auch die Platzierungen dahinter noch offen. Es ist somit vom 1. Bis 3. November ein spannendes BOSS GP Finale in Misano zu erwarten.

Great start to autumn in Mugello

After the race in Assen / Netherlands and the subsequent summer break, the teams of the BOSS GP Racing series headed south at the beginning of October. When entries closed, it was already clear that there would be a very large starting field in Tuscany with 24 cars. HS-Engineering from Austria had taken a break in Assen, but both Dallara World Series V8 T12s were entered for Mugello. The Brazilian ex-Formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia with the more powerful 4.5 liter Gibson engine in the Open Class and the Irishman Paul O’Connell with the 3.5 liter V8. The French ZIG-ZAG team brought two well-known Auto GP racers to the start in the Formula Class, the Monegasque Nicolas Matile and the Frenchman Jean-Christope Peyre.

There was also a reunion with Giancarlo Pedetti (ITA), who this time drove a GP 2 from Scuderia Palladio. The Czech Vladimir Netušil will be taking part in this Formula Class for the first time. He dared to switch from a Formula 3 to the GP2 of the Italian team MM International Motorsport. The large field of starters was also joined by the 2022 BOSS GP Super Lights champion, Andreas Hasler from Austria, who brought his Dallara World Series V6 T08 to Tuscany after a long, technical absence.

In the two free practice sessions, which were run in changing conditions, Ingo Gerstl (AUT) from the Top-Speed ​​team in the Toro Rosso STR1 F1 and Antonio Pizzonia duelled. Gerstl drove the fastest time in FP1 with 1:30.422, Pizzonia countered as the fastest in FP2, but with 1:31.513 he could not match the Austrian’s time. Behind them was an Italian GP 2 trio with Simone Colombo, Massimiliano Cuccarese (both MM International Motorsport) and Marco Ghiotto (Scuderia Palladio). Newcomer Vladimir Netušil was surprisingly strong, making himself noticeable behind this trio after the two free practice sessions and thus in the front field of the Formula Class. An exciting qualifying session was to be expected – and that’s what happened, but with a significant delay, because the morning fog persisted and was so thick that it was not possible for any of the racing classes present in Mugello this weekend to start on time. The first drivers, the Alfa Romeo Revival Cup, only took to the track two hours later than planned.

The fog then quickly cleared and the weather improved. This meant that much better lap times were possible in the BOSS GP qualifying session. Due to the large field of starters, the 30-minute qualifying session was again split into two groups this time. First 10 minutes for the fastest from the free practice sessions and then 18 minutes for the rest of the field after a changeover phase.

Due to the delays caused by the fog, PNK as the organizer had to tighten up the schedule enormously in consultation with the race management and the BOSS GP organization. All series organizers helped very enthusiastically to get all the planned races through. For race 1 of the BOSS GP, which started almost an hour late, the race duration had to be shortened by two minutes.

Race 2 on Sunday went ahead as originally planned. In the formation lap, the two Formula 1 cars with Ingo Gerstl and Ulf Ehninger (GER), ESBA Racing, Benetton B197 F1, were at the front. Behind the second leading car was the rest of the field, led by Antonip Pizzonia and followed by an armada of GP2 drivers from the Formula Class. Since some preliminary decisions could be made in the individual classes with regard to the overall victory, exciting duels and interesting fights for the individual positions in the points were to be expected. And that’s exactly what happened. Positions were changed for laps.


With two race wins in Mugello, Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International Motorsport, Dallara GP2, pictured at the front) is getting ever closer to the previous leader of the BOSS GP Formula class, Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio, Dallara GP2) in the points ranking. The decision for the overall victory in this class will probably be made on the Misano weekend at the beginning of November.

Class results BOSS GP Race 2:

Since the BOSS GP F1 class will not be taking part in the finale in Misano at the beginning of November, Ulf Ehninger has been declared the overall winner of the F1 class for the second time. The same goes for Antonio Pizzonia in the BOSS GP Open Class. There is no title decision in the remaining two BOSS GP classes. Here, both the overall victory and the placings behind it are still open. An exciting BOSS GP finale can therefore be expected in Misano from November 1st to 3rd.

Local Heroes: Max Cuccarese

Rising star Massimiliano Cuccarese (high school student from Pignola in South Italy) made a fantastic debut in BOSS GP last time at Assen. Before his home race in Mugello the MM International driver explained why the BOSS GP Racing Series has captivated him.

When did your adventure with motorsport begin? 

MAX CUCCARESE: “I became passionate about motorsport after watching MotoGP races on TV, but when I got older I rather preferred cars, especially single-seaters.”

Tell us about your path from karting to BOSS GP

CUCCARESE: “I started in 2020 (when he was 13 years old, note) with karts in the IAME X30 junior category in the Campania regional championship. Due to the COVID pandemic participating in races was only possible one year later (i.e. in 2021). I finished the championship in 3rd place, unfortunately after missing a race for family reasons. In 2021 I took part in my first Italian Championship and WSK Euro Series in Sarno in the OK Senior category. The following year I switched to single seaters and did some tests with Formula 4 on Italian circuits. In 2023 I moved to Formula 3 and did a couple of tests with the Dallara F317. At the beginning of 2024 I did a test with the Dallara F320 before moving on to the fantastic GP2 of the MM International Motorsport team last June.”

Can you describe your emotions during your first race weekend in a super-fast single-seater last time with BOSS GP in Assen? 

CUCCARESE: “It’s been a while since my last race and without knowing the track, I didn’t know what to expect, also because it was my first race in this car. But as soon as I got on the track during Free Practice I immediately got an excellent feeling and I realized that with the hard work of the all team members we had the speed to get on the podium in both races.  As soon as I crossed the finish line of race 1 in place 2 I was really emotional and felt very happy for myself and the whole team.”

How do you like the environment in BOSS GP? 

CUCCARESE: “It’s a really pleasant environment, there is great respect between all the drivers and teams on and off the track. The fans are amazing, with a unique passion and support. I would also like to thank my team MM International Motorsport for the trust they have placed in me and for the work they do with real passion.”

What goal do you have? What are you aiming for in motorsports? 

CUCCARESE: “My future goal is to race the fastest single seaters such as the F2 World Championship, Super Formula, IndyCar and maybe even F1.”

Quando hai cominciato col motor sport?

MAX CUCCARESE: „Ho seguito la MotoGP in TV. Così cominciavo a entusiasmarmi del motor sport. Con gli anni però ho preferito le auto da corsa, soprattutto le monoposto.”

Raccontaci il tuo percorso dal Kart alla BOSS GP Racing Series

CUCCARESE: „Nel 2020 (all’età di 13 anni, ndr) ho cominciato a correre nel campionato regionale della Campagna nella categoria Junior IMAE X30 a causa della pandemia COVID il mio debutto nel mondo delle corse è arrivato con un anno di ritardo e ho finito il campionato in terza posizione nonostante il fatto ero costretto a rinunciare a una gara per motivi familiari. Nel 2021 ho partecipato al Campionato Italiano per la prima volta e anche nel WSK-Euroserie a Sarno nella categoria OK Senior. L’anno seguente ho fatto il passo in monoposto con alcune sessioni di test in Formula 4 su varie piste italiane. Nel 2023 ho provato una Dallara F317 e inizio 2024 ho fatto un test con una Dallara F320 prima di fare il prossimo salto con la GP2 della MM International Motorsport in giugno.”

Potresti descriverci le tue sensazioni durante il primo weekend di gara nella BOSS GP Racing Series?  

CUCCARESE: CUCCARESE: „Onestamente non sapevo cosa mi dovessi aspettare di questa prima gara con una nuova macchina senza conoscere il circuito e dopo un periodo senza gare. Tuttavia dopo i primi giri nelle prove libere avevo una sensazione positiva e grazie al duro lavoro di tutto i membri del team ero convinto che saremo pronti a lottare per le posizioni da podio in gara. Quando ho visto la bandiera a scacchi in seconda posizione in gara 1, mi sono emozionato e ero molto contento per l’intero team.”

Come ti piace l’ambiente in Boss GP?

CUCCARESE: „E‘ un ambiente molto piacevole, c‘è tanto di rispetto tra tutti i piloti e team, sia in pista sia nel paddock. Gli appassionati sono fantastici con una passione unica e un grande appoggio. Vorrei ringraziare la MM International Motorsport per la fiducia e per il lavoro svolto con immensa passione.”

Qual è il tuo obiettivo? A che cosa aspiri nel motorsport?

CUCCARESE: „Il mio obiettivo è prendere il volante delle più veloci auto di Formula come le F2, Super Formula, IndyCar e magari persino una Formula 1.”

Review: Assen 2024

95,000 fans saw the City Showrun on Thursday as an appetiser in the centre of Assen and another three days of great racing on the TT Circuit. The championship remains wide open after round 4 in the Netherlands.

In addition to Formula 1 star David Coulthard, BOSS GP driver Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Team Top Speed) attracted a lot of attention when he accelerated his Toro Rosso STR1 next to the canal and then skilfully performed a few pirouettes. Gerstl’s team-mate Erich Zech attracted similar attention when he drove his roaring 1997 Ferrari Formula 1 around the 4.555-kilometre track during the demo runs.

It was also Gerstl who won both races in the F1 class and set the lap record on the legendary MotoGP circuit with a lap time of 1:16.791 in qualifying. Ulf Ehninger (GER, ESBA Racing) finished second twice, which was enough to keep him at the top of the standings. The Benetton driver goes into the race in Mugello with a 44-point lead, which is also the last chance for the Formula 1 cars to score points this year. Due to the track licence, only the OPEN, FORMULA and SUPER LIGHTS classes are eligible to start at the grand finale in Misano.

After Juju Noda (MM International) not only secured her first pole position at the Red Bull Ring, but also won a BOSS GP race for the first time, the 17-year-old Japanese driver followed this up with another pole position in Assen. However, Noda found herself behind her team-mate on the way to turn 1. It was then a close call with Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio), who squeezed past Noda on the inside of turn 1. While Noda lost places at the start, Michael Fischer (AUT, Red Rosa Racing by LRT) made up positions at the back of the field. After a technical failure in qualifying, he made up 13 places in the race compared to the starting grid and ultimately finished fourth in the FORMULA classification.

While Colombo controlled the pace at the front and took his fifth win of the season, newcomer Max Cuccarese (ITA, MM International) surprised everyone with a confident drive and second place in his very first race in a GP2 car. The youngest driver in the field confirmed this performance on Sunday with another podium finish (3rd). Marco Ghiotto scored the same number of points as Cuccarese with 3rd and 2nd place.

Noda made a much better start in the second race, enabling her to defend her lead over Colombo. As the two MM drivers in their GP2 Dallara looked set for another duel this season, Colombo retired. As this happened in the first half of the race, the defending champion was only awarded half points instead of full points. The third retirement of the season was another setback for the fast Italian in the battle for the championship title. Marco Ghiotto remains in the lead. The 2019-2021 champion is scoring points with consistency and is now 22 points ahead of his compatriot Colombo.

Martin Kindler (SUI) also left Assen with a smile on his face. The Swiss returnee to the series not only qualified for Q1 (top five in free practice), but also delivered two strong results with 6th and 5th place. Andreas Fiedler (GER) was able to put the problems of the last races behind him and scored twice with 7th and 6th places, while Walter Steding (GER, Scuderia Palladio) was able to regain his old form in the races after a mixed training session and finished 8th twice in the fiercely contested FORMULA class. After an accident in the first race, Phil Stratford’s (Scuderia Palladio) team was able to repair the car for the second race and the American finished the second race in 7th place.

Stephan Glaser is the front-runner in this year’s SUPER LIGHTS championship

SUPER LIGHTS

Stephan Glaser (SUI, Jo Zeller Racing) was once again unbeatable for his rivals. With wins number 5 and 6 this season, the BOSS GP rookie extended his lead in the championship to 34 points. While race 1 in this class was a smooth affair, race 2 was particularly remarkable. Firstly, Glaser parked his car at the side of the track on the last lap. Second-placed Stefan Scho (GER) was unable to capitalise on this, however, as he also stopped with technical problems on the final lap. Henry Clausnitzer (GER, WF Racing) was already two laps down after going off track into the gravel on lap 1 and was also unable to capitalise on this. This meant that the order on the podium on Saturday and Sunday was Glaser ahead of Scho and Clausnitzer. In addition to Stephan Glaser and Henry Clausnitzer, a third driver, Stefan Eisinger-Sewald (AUT, Red Rose Racing), is still in contention for the championship title despite a challenging weekend for him.

Races 9 and 10 of the season will take place on 12 and 13 October 2024 in Mugello. All four classes of the BOSS GP Racing Series can be seen and heard for the last time all together this season as part of the PNK Racing Weekend.

Zusätzliche Reifenmischung ab Assen

BOSS GP und Reifenlieferant Pirelli bieten ab dem nächsten Rennen in Assen (2.–4 . August 2024) neben der Soft-Mischung auch wieder einen Medium-Trockenreifen an.

Neben der bislang vorgeschriebenen Soft-Mischung, wie in der Formel 1 an der Farbe Rot zu erkennen, bietet BOSS GP ab sofort den Teams und Fahrern auch wieder die Mischung mit dem Härtegrad „medium“ (gelb) an.

Diese Wahlmöglichkeit bei den P-Zero-Trockenreifen erweitert die strategischen Möglichkeiten der Teams an den verbleibenden Rennwochenenden der Saison 2024 in Assen, Mugello und Misano. Die Mediumreifen sollen vor allem bei höheren Temperaturen besser funktionieren und weisen durch ihre härtere Gummimischung auch eine längere Haltbarkeit auf.

Alle für die Rennen eingeschriebenen Fahrer bekommen in Kürze ein neues Bestellformular zugeschickt und können ab sofort Bestellungen beim BOSS GP-Reifendienst Reifen Hollerweger abgeben.

Additional tyre compound available

From the next race in Assen (2–4 August 2024), BOSS GP and tyre supplier Pirelli will bring back a medium dry tyre in addition to the soft compound.

In addition to the mandatory soft compound, which can be recognised by its red colour like in Formula 1, BOSS GP will supply teams and drivers with a medium compound (yellow) at all the upcoming events of the 2024 championship season. This includes the races in Assen, Mugello and Misano later this year.

This option for the P-Zero dry tyres expands the teams’ strategic options on race weekends. The medium tyres should work better at higher temperatures in particular and also have a longer durability thanks to their harder rubber compound.

All drivers registered for the races will receive a new order form shortly and can now submit their orders to BOSS GP tyre service Reifen Hollerweger.

Variante di pneumatico aggiuntiva da Assen

A partire dalla prossima gara di Assen (2–4 agosto 2024), BOSS GP e il fornitore di pneumatici Pirelli offriranno nuovamente uno pneumatico medio da asciutto in aggiunta alla mescola morbida.

Oltre alla mescola morbida precedentemente prescritta (riconoscibile dal colore rosso), BOSS GP offrirà nuovamente a team e piloti la mescola “medium” (gialla) con effetto immediato.

Questa scelta di pneumatici da asciutto P-Zero amplia le opzioni strategiche dei team per i restanti weekend di gara della stagione 2024 ad Assen, Mugello e Misano. I pneumatici medi dovrebbero avere prestazioni migliori, soprattutto alle alte temperature, e una maggiore durata grazie alla loro mescola di gomma più dura.

Local heroes: Stefan Eisinger-Sewald

With a 1991 Formula 3000 in vintage colours and still with a genuine manual gearbox, the Austrian from Vienna has become a crowd favourite in the BOSS GP Racing Series.

Why does it have to be a historic racing car and not a modern one?

STEFAN EISINGER-SEWALD: “I’ve been dealing with historic cars for more than ten years now. To me, the value of a historic vehicle is much higher than that of a modern one. I just like the old stuff – it’s still real racing!”

So you still drive an H-pattern gearbox?

EISINGER-SEWALD: “Exactly, I still drive a very old, ’empty’ H-gear. Technically, of course, there are already much better things. We have also tried to convert it, but it doesn’t work. So for the moment, we’re running it as it was designed in ’91.”

His race car: Ralt RT23 Formula 3000

Your car bears the famous colours of a cigarette manufacturer – what is your relationship to this design?

EISINGER-SEWALD: “As a small child, I always liked the colours on the Williams. Now I’ve kept it, because we also had it on the Pedrazza prototypes before. The whole teamwear is based on this design and, as I’m a thrifty person, I didn’t want to design something new (laughs).”

Where does your technical expertise come from?

EISINGER-SEWALD: “I learnt it from my motocross days in my youth. You quickly learn what you’re interested in. Today, Walter Vorreiter and the Fischer Motorsport team from Mödling support me.”

What is your favourite track?

EISINGER-SEWALD: “Spa, actually. Spa was my most successful race in my Formula Ford 1600 days. We competed there with a small delegation from the Histo Cup. I finished fourth out of 44 cars – that was my biggest success in the four-wheel sector apart from the 2022 championship title in the Histo Cup Austria.”

What can you learn from racing for your professional life or vice versa?

EISINGER-SEWALD: “Ambition and never giving up! Our company specialises in doing projects where others have said: ‘That’s not possible’. That makes it even more exciting for me to look at it in detail.”

As a child, you were a fan of …

EISINGER-SEWALD: “… always Ayrton Senna. The way he approached things and his daredevil attitude impressed me. Similar to a James Hunt, who could go out and have fun the day before and still be invincible the next day!”
