Van Eerd and Dorrbecker win closer
October 9, 2016

bossgp_imola_race2-31The 2016 BOSS GP season is over! A sensational championship year full of suspense, emotion, action and pure racing has come to an end. And the final race was another highlight, of course, including a Safety-Car phase

In the OPEN Class Frits van Erd managed to push the previous dominator of the weekend, Tarso Marques, off his throne. The Dutchman outpaced his team mate, who had won Pole and race on Saturday. Naturally, Van Eerd was delighted about his second win of the season saying: “I have now won on two of my favourite tracks, in Monza and in Imola. It was a great ending to a good season and I am already looking forward to 2017. Maybe I will enter a new car.”

Behind van Eerd and former F1 driver Marques, who congratulated his VES Racing mate to P1 and is considering a return to the series, Peter Milavec came third securing runner-up spot in the championship. “Another podium finish and thus becoming vice champion, what more could I ask for. I am really happy.”

bossgp_imola_race2-42Luis Michael Dorrbecker kept his cool in a chaotic fight for victory in the FORMULA Class. “Three wins in a row are simply awesome. It’s a pity the season is over and also that I could not start in all races.” However, the Mexican capitalised on a generator failure at leading Chris Höher’s car.

Meanwhile, second-placed FORMULA Champion Christopher Brenier collided with Mahaveer Raghunathan midway through the race. “I had closed in on a backmarker who wouldn’t let me past. Losing 5-6 seconds behind him, I risked too much in overtaking, spun and crash into Mahaveer. It was a racing accident, but it’s not how you want to end the season.”

This crash caused a Safety-Car phase, which was perfectly used by Phil Stratford to move up into P2. “I was counting the cars ahead of me and knew, if I overtook two more, I would finish on the podium. I pushed as hard as I could and brought it home. What a highlight finish of the season”, the American said.

Austria’s Philipp Sager, who made his BOSS GP debut with Zele Racing, came a surprise third. “I would never have dreamt of a podium, but here I am. A huge thank you goes to my team.”
