Tarso Marques still has it all — the Brazilian Team VES Racing driver lapped the Imola circuit in his Benetton B197 in 1:28;568 minutes to go top of the standings. «I am very happy with the result. It feels great and will do everything to win the race.»
Second spot went to his VES Racing team mate Frits van Eerd in a Minardi. «We had smaller technical glitches yesterday, but today everything seems fine. I think, I should make it onto the podium.»
Peter Milavec, who came third, as discontent saying: «I can’t get the tires to work. I need about 5-6 laps to get the right temperature and start pushing. I am three seconds slower than yesterday.» Meanwhile, Hans Laub’s weekend is over following a technical failure on his Forti racer.
In the FORMULA Class, Chris Höher set the fastest time, but the Top Speed driver has yet to serve a 10-Place Grid Penalty from Brno and will only start 12th. Thus, Luis Michael Dorrbecker of Torino Squadra Corse inherited Pole, but has warned: «Höher is very fast. I am sure, he will catch up quickly.» And Höher is indeed planning to go on attack mode: «We have the pace, but it’s difficult to overtake. I will give everything, so making the podium would be great.»
India’s Mahaveer Raghunathan was 3rd, ahead of Christopher Brenier. «We had to use old tires, so we were a bit slower. The fight for the podium will be tough», the French new FORMULA Champion said.
