Ingo Gerstl, from motocross to Formula 1

Masters champion
In the first racing weekend of the BOSS GP-series, earlier this year at the Hockenheim circuit, Gerstl steered his Dallara Renault World Series to victory twice in the Masters Class. Gerstl was no stranger to the Masters Class. He was crowned champions in this class in 2008. After his double win in Germany, Ingo decided to move on to the Open Class. He made his debut in the Open Class at Spa-Francorchamps in his Dallara GP2. Ingo has high expectations of his new car. “My GP2 has 600 hp. That’s not as much as a Formula 1 car, but my car from 2007 has more down force. And I’m eager to continue to improve my car. I’m hopeful that I will be able to seriously compete with Klaas Zwart at the end of this year. My car will be like a rocket next season.”
For the real enthusiast: Ingo’s Dallara Renault World Series is for sale
Gerstl forms a team together with his compatriot Norbert Gruber (Dallara Nissan World Series). Additionally, he’s eager to add a third driver to his team in the near future. “I’ve bought two GP2s and I’m planning to rent out the second car. However, I will not do so until my own Dallara GP2 is perfectly adjusted. My new teammate will then be able to use my adjustments as the basis for his car.”

BOSS GP ‘excellent offer’
For those who think that racing in the BOSS GP-series is an expensive business, have a chat with Gerstl. Of course, racing at this level comes with a price tag, but Ingo feels like it’s not that bad after all. “It’s impossible to drive this kind of cars for the price you pay in the BOSS GP-series elsewhere,” knows Gerstl from experience. “You pay only €6.000 for seven weekends and you get 21 racing days for that. You get the chance to race at the best Formula 1 circuits during great events. Of course, your total costs also depend on the car you’re driving. I can recommend driving in a GP2 car. You can drive about 4.50 kilometers before the engine has to be taken apart. Participating in the BOSS GP-series isn’t too much of a problem for me financially.”
Gerstl ended with a tip for potential contenders. “There are a lot of Formula 3000 cars out there that are not being used at the moment. I hope that a couple of these cars will strengthen our Class.”
What kind of car did Dan Daly drive when he won the Masters Class at Spa-Francorchamps? Exactly!
