The BOSS GP Champions were honoured at a gala ‘Prize Giving 2011’ event at Ascari Race Resort on 13 and 14 November. Host Klaas Zwart felt privileged to receive the main prize in the Open Class at his own circuit, thus winning the title for the second year running. Ingo Gerstl was the winner of the Formula Class, while Karl-Heinz Becker was crowned champion of the Masters Class.

The invitation was tempting: Prize Giving 2011, it said, an event at Ascari Race Resort, Klaas Zwart´s own circuit, located in the unparalleled natural beauty of Spanish mountain town Ronda. But there were more activities, as several BOSS GP drivers had fortunately brought their smashing cars, so the lovely sound and the ultimate speed thrill of the unique Big Open Single Seaters were also thoroughly enjoyed.

Klaas Zwart is the BOSS
The host will usually not be in contention for the biggest prize, but the ceremonial event at Ascari Race Resort proved to be different. Klaas Zwart was rewarded for his good performances this season with the title in the BOSS GP Open, a class for Formula One cars from after 1992. The Dutchman started the season with a Benetton, but midway the season he moved to a Jaguar R5 from 2004, comfortably beating off tough competition.

“The 2011 season has been most successful for me. The Benetton was and still is a very good car, but the Jaguar is more up-to-date and performs at a higher level. As far as acceleration is concerned, there’s precious little difference, with the Benetton having an even higher torque. The Jaguar, though, has a better braking performance and a higher top speed. It took us a while to get the car going, but once all problems had been solved, things went fairy smoothly”, said the man who won the title for the second year running. Zwart obviously enjoyed the event staged at his own circuit.

“It’s great to be able to drive in your own place, with a bunch of friends around you.” The champions is hoping to extend his successes. “Nothing can beat driving these cars, nothing at all. I certainly intend to keep on racing. My family comes first, but racing is definitely second-best.”
