Peter Milavec aiming to push the limits with speeds over 300 km per hour

Absolute top
The Austrian did not need long to think about it when he got the opportunity to race in the Panoz DP01 Champcar in 2009. “Racing in a big brutal machine like this is the absolute top in the car racing industry. It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you’re driving at top speeds like that at some of Europe’s finest tracks. It’s really something extreme and is the ultimate thrill for me. I hope to continue driving in the BOSS GP for many more years.”

Doornbos’ car
Milavec’s black and red car is extra special for Dutchmen because Robert Doornbos successfully featured in the Champcar in this vehicle. “I’ve spoken with Robert a few times, but never about racing in his car now. He is a true professional, whereas the car racing industry is just a way to blow off some steam for me. It’s the perfect way to relax a bit.”

Easy-going car
After initially featuring in the BOSS GP as a guest driver on a number of occasions, Peter Milavec has now become one of the usual suspects in the class. The Austrian has started in the majority of the races and is hopeful of keeping up his good appearance record. “I am thoroughly enjoying racing in this class and being part of the great group of people who are involved in it. Every time I step behind the steering wheel of my car, it’s a great moment again. I can really feel the excitement. The Champcar has a lot of power, but is actually quite easy-going. It isn’t hard to keep the car in check and it really is a great machine,” tells Milavec shortly after steering his car to second place at Monza. Henk de Boer, who also races in a Champcar, was quite impressed with the power of his colleague. “Good lord, did you build in a 1000 hp engine,” laughed the Dutchman. “You looked like you were driving a rocket.”
Remarkable change
Remarkably, Milavec still was not completely satisfied with the performances of the Champcar. So he decided to remove the already rather powerful engine and replace it with an LMP source of power, an engine usually used for long distance races. “It might seem a bit weird considering the fact that the races in the BOSS GP last only 20 minutes. Nevertheless, this engine is so strong and powerful that it’s still the right choice for me,” explains Milavec the remarkable change.

Two faces
Monza was an event with two different faces for Peter Milavec. Everything went excellent in the qualification and race 1. “I fought out an interesting battle with my compatriot Ingo Gerstl for first place in the Formula-class. Ingo is usually a bit too strong for me, but everything went fantastic for me at Monza. After getting past Henk de Boer in his Champcar, I managed to catch up with Ingo. We were fighting for top spot for several laps, but I was unfortunately unable to pass him. This is what it’s all about though. Fighting for your place right until the end, great!”
Oil pressure
As outstanding as the opening race was, as disappointing was the remainder of the weekend. The Austrian’s Champcar experienced problems with the oil pressure after the first race. Those problems could not be fixed in time and that meant that Milavec’s event at Monza came to an abrupt end after only one race. “Disappointing, but hey, that’s car racing,” reacted the disappointed Milavec.
