Arnold Wagner races in Heinz-Harald Frentzen's seat

High level
When the BOSS GP kicked off in 2010, Wagner was quick to give it another try though and he does not regret his decision. “It was clear right from the start that the class was set up completely different from its predecessor and that was crucial for me. It’s amazing what has been achieved in two years´ time. BOSS GP coordinator Christian Gaense and the other founders have managed to get this class to a very high level in short time and that deserves nothing but compliments.”

Refresher course English
One of the most enjoyable things for Arnold Wagner is the way in which all the BOSS GP teams and drivers treat each other. “I really feel like I’m away for the weekend with a bunch of friends at an event. That is quite special. I’ve experienced completely different situations in the past. It’s a real pity that my English isn’t too impressive any more. I did a course back in the days, but I’ve forgotten most of it over the years and I don’t really feel comfortable speaking English. Perhaps a refresher course would be a good idea,” smiles the sympathetic German.

Everything original
When Wagner bought the car it was in pieces and not complete. André Bergermann and Steffen Schuemann – the founders of the “Rennwerk” company - took care of the project and rebuilt the car to a perfectly original condition. “Enrique Bernoldi was racing in this Arrows in 2001 and I already thought it was a beautiful car back then. My compatriot Heinz-Harald Frentzen also tested in this car and the funny thing is that his seat is just perfect for me. That’s why even the seat is still the original one!”

Asiatech engine
The man behind the steering wheel of the Arrows has little reason to be worried about whether he will be able to keep the car in its original state for now, because there are still plenty of Asiatech engines available. “The Rennwerk guys, who were also responsible for the sources of energy for the Toyota Formula 1 team, also look after the engines for me. They are some of the best in the field and that shows in my top speeds.”

Not perfect
Nevertheless, Wagner was not completely satisfied at Monza. “My usual car engineer couldn’t make it to this event, so we were unable to find the perfect adjustments for the car. That’s vital at a quick circuit like Monza and it was very difficult to get through curves like the Variante Ascari smoothly. I lost too much time on my rivals because of that and was consequently unable to fight for the victory. That was a shame, but I still had a great weekend and I’m going home with a positive feeling after winning two trophies for my third places. My win during the Historic Grand Prix at Hockenheim felt good, so I will do my utmost to repeat that success in the future!”
