Eau Rouge is calling: BOSS GP heads for Spa

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS (May 19th, 2010) La Source, Eau Rouge, Raidillon: names that make the hearts of red-blooded racing fans beat faster. This weekend, the impressive machines from the BOSS GP series can be watched in action at full song at one of Europe’s most thrilling race tracks, the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, beautifully located in the rolling hills of the Belgian Ardennes region. The BOSS GP series is one of the highlights on the programme of the RMU Classic, a very popular event in the historic racing scene.

The BOSS GP entry list for the second round of the 2010 season shows twelve cars in the BOSS GP ‘Open’ class for cars that formerly raced in the Formula 1 World Championship, GP2 or the Champ Car series and another seven cars in the BOSS GP ‘Masters’ category that is open to machinery from the former Dallara-Nissan World Series, Formula 3000 and older F1 equipment.

“We had a great start of the season at Hockenheim, where the inaugural event of our series took place in mid-April”, BOSS GP race co-ordinator Christian Gaense says. “We received a lot of positive feedback from drivers and fans alike, which obviously was a great motivation for us to keep pushing ahead for our series. After Hockenheim, with its stadium-like atmosphere in the Motodrom, it is now on to Spa, a circuit with a great heritage as the long-standing venue for the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix and without any doubt perfectly suited for the powerful cars in our series.”

Many of the drivers who already raced at Hockenheim will be back in action at Spa-Francorchamps, including double race winner Klaas Zwart and fellow Dutchman Marijn van Kalmthout, who is even more determined to do well at Spa following his misfortune at the season opener. Austrian Ingo Gerstl, who claimed top honours in the BOSS GP ‘Masters’ category in both races at Hockenheim, has now graduated to the ‘Open’ category, having switched from his Dallara-Nissan World Series car to a Dallara GP2 car. New drivers in the ‘Open’ category also include Austrian Peter Milavec, who will be racing the Panoz DP01 Champ Car that was formerly driven by Dutchman Robert Doornbos – still sporting its original livery and without any doubt a nice sight for the many racing fans from the Benelux.

The three-day event at Spa will provide plenty of action with the FIA Lurani Trophy, the FIA Historic Formula One Championship, Group 2 Racing, the Orwell Supersports Cup, the Historic Formula 2 Trophy, Formule 3 Classic, Formula Ford Kent and other classes. The first BOSS GP race will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, at 4.30 pm. The second race gets underway on Sunday, May 23rd, at 2.10 pm. Both races will have a duration of 20 minutes.
