Patrick D'Aubreby: 'Schumacher won his first Grand Prix F1 in my Benetton'
The real car racing enthusiast marvels at the big and historical cars in the BOSS GP, especially when an old Formula 1 has an impressive history and races in its original condition, which happens to be the situation with the 1992 Camel Benetton Formula 1 owned by Patrick D’Aubreby. “This is a beautiful car with Ross Brawn as the one who designed it and Michael Schumacher the driver who raced in it. I love this car!”
It’s August 28, 2011, when seven-time world champion Formula 1 Michael Schumacher celebrates his 20-year racing anniversary at Spa-Francorchamps. The German, who is wearing a special golden helmet for the occasion, shows that he still knows how to hit the pedal to the metal with a superb race in which he starts from 24th position and eventually finishes in P5.
Special cars
Several hundreds of kilometres further down the road, at the Red Bull Ring in the Austrian city of Spielberg, two French drivers are participating in the BOSS GP. These gentleman drivers, and admirers of special cars, have somewhat of a special relationship with Schumi, his history and old Formula 1 cars.
Didier Sirgue, for example, raced in the Jordan F1 sponsored by 7up earlier this season, the type of car in which Schumacher drove in his first Grand Prix ever in 1991.
