Tom Coronel drives crowd wild during BOSS GP at Zandvoort

Not the boring Formula 3 race, but the spectacular BOSS GP cars were the main attraction at the illustrious Masters of F3-weekend at Circuit Park Zandvoort. Guest driver Tom Coronel, who won both heats in his Benetton Formula 1 from 1997, thoroughly enjoyed his participation. “We drove 46.500 spectators completely mad,” said the Dutch driver.

“The only problem that I experienced was painful jaws. I couldn’t stop smiling in my helmet. This was such an amazing thing to do!” commented Coronel, who saw Ingo Gerstl catch up with leader in the general classification Klaas Zwart. With Marijn van Kalmthout and Henk de Boer still nearby in the standings as well, the championship is still very tense.

Zandvoort was a set fixture on the Formula 1 calendar back in the days. Nevertheless, the BOSS GP brought back the memories of the old days some 26 years after legends such as Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna took part in the last official F1 race in The Netherlands in 1985. The two races with the twenty years old Formula 1s, GP2s, Champcars, Formula 3000s, Indycars and World Series cars provided plenty of spectacle.
