Klaas Zwart’s dominance in the BOSS GP-series has come to an end after eight consecutive victories. Marijn van Kalmthout raced to a double win at the circuit in Zolder, Belgium. “What a fantastic result,” reacted the delighted Ford dealer from Hoofddorp. Karl-Heinz Becker is in a league of his own in the Masters Class.

The German driver steered to his fifth and sixth win of the season at the Flemish asphalt.

Klaas Zwart appeared to be more than ready to live up to the favorites tag during the qualification on 17 July. The leader in the standings steered his car to a fastest lap of 1:18,401 and was 0,2 seconds faster than rival Marijn van Kalmthout.

“I was really disappointed and I had already demanded too much of my tires at that moment,” said Van Kalmthout. “Something inside me told me to go on though. I told my team to fill up the car with benzene and returned to the track. Normally, it’s impossible to improve your fastest lap time with used tires, but I opted to play all or nothing and this decision paid off. I steered the car to a lap of 1:17,985 to scoop up pole position. That was a superb lap, because no BOSS GP car had ever driven faster than 1:18 at this track.” Fun fact: Van Kalmthout’s ex-Alesi Benetton was even faster than the Superleague Formula cars that were the main attraction at Zolder.
