Klaas Zwart might have won the first eight races of the BOSS GP season, but this doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been challenged. “Marijn van Kalmthout is incredibly fast,” says Zwart full of admiration about his colleague. “Marijn is really on the way up.”

You enjoy a good performance even more when you’ve been through something disappointing shortly before. That’s why BOSS GP driver Marijn van Kaltmhout was full of joy on the last day of the Masters of Formula 3 weekend in Zandvoort. He appeared to be on his way to victory the day before until mechanical problems eventually cost him. “Finishing at only 0,4 seconds from winner Klaas Zwaart is incredibly nice, especially considering the fact that I started from the last position,” smiled the Ford dealer from Hoofddorp after finishing in second position in his Benetton Formula 1. Illustrious driver Jean Alesi raced in that car in 1997.

Bad luck or success
Marijn van Kalmthout has enjoyed his fair share of success during his 15-year-long career in the car racing industry. However, he has possibly had even more bad luck than he has had success. The 46-year-old Hoofddorp native has already had plenty of bad luck this season, too. For example, he appeared to be on his way to victory during the first BOSS GP weekend at the German Hockenheim circuit when mechanical problems abruptly ended his race. With Pentecost, Van Kalmthout only just escaped crashing into a wall at the Spa circuit in Belgium after a tire came loose off his car. He was once again hit by bad fortune at the Nürburgring, when he got a flat tire at top speed. Finally, during the Masters of Formula 3 in Zandvoort, Van Kalmthout was confronted with all kinds of different emotions again.
