Swiss driver Jean-Claude Monbaron is one of those drivers who walked the traditional path in the auto racing industry to kick-start his career. He started in the Go-kart, then moved on to Formula Ford and Formula 3 and eventually ended up in the world every driver is dreaming about; the world of the Formula 1 in the BOSS GP. “I possess my Reynard 91D F3000 since 2001 and I’m very happy that I can actually race in it thanks to the BOSS GP-series. I wouldn’t be able to do what I like best without this racing class.”

Reynard 91D F3000
The likable Swiss driver competes in the BOSS GP in a Reynard 91D F3000. The car was built by Reynard back in 1991 and has raced in the official Formula 3000 championship. Monbaron bought the car in 2001 and has been crazy about the car ever since. “The V-6 engine constructed by Holden has a capacity of 3800 cc and provides 340 horse powers. Of course, that’s not as much as the other cars in the BOSS GP Open Class. I’m not really able to compete with most of the other cars, but I can keep up with the cars in the Masters Class pretty well. I’ve even made it onto the podium already. I’m very satisfied with the carbon-fiber monocoque of the Reynard and I’m feeling very well in this car.”

Mechanic and driver
Some of the drivers in the BOSS GP series have a team of mechanics surrounding them and can thus focus all their attention on racing. Monbaron is walking a different path though. “I have two jumpsuits, one to race in and one to wear when I’m working on the car. I do have a mechanic who’s helping me though. But I’m keeping tabs on everything that’s happening and I’m doing my fair share of the work. What I like better? Well, nothing equals the thrill of racing in cars like this, so the answer to that question is quite clear. Don’t get me wrong though, working on these cars comes very close.”
